  • Wow, what a lengthy and in depth article but full of useful information

  • I really had to laugh about this, being a recent bride myself. My family didn’t want to pay for a videographer but I looked into it anyways because what one wants, one wants — and why would we want a bigger camera? Reminds me of the days of camcorders, not hi-def video. I definitely would have been unimpressed with a small digital camera, even though as a graphic designer I ought to know better. We had a great photographer and the digital camera she used was professional quality which really showed up compared to my family’s cameras. Their cameras made it look much darker outside than it was!

  • I wonder why people want all that bulky equipment. I would think that would just get in everyone’s way …. I just have to roll my eyes at the whole “bigger is better” … I wonder if there is a minimalist wedding market?

  • We are on a mountaintop just outside San Diego; nowhere near you! But we host weddings occasionally and we agree that having a large amount of camera equipment at these outdoor weddings would be very inconvenient. I assume you are using the more practical and effective digital cameras?

Hello to the sunny climes of California,
Yes, video cameras have come along way. They are light, feature rich and you don’t have to mortgage your house to get one. Having a ‘movie set’ move onto your lawn or into the reception hall can be annoying just to show you have what it takes to shoot a great wedding. As far as a videographers role and responsibility goes is to be invisible during the wedding day. Travel light, shoot right. You will still get a movie style production without the hassle. Thanks for your take.

  • It’s really better to have a videographer at the wedding — while showing off a photo album is traditional, it’s cumbersome. Easier to have guests sit on the couch and watch the video instead of reading over each other’s shoulders and narrating “Oh, this is so-and-so” …. good for you, Ottawa Wedding Videos!
